Military to CivilianI recently was discharged from the Military Honorably. I have a resume made by a professional and i have been looking for work as a civilian federal employee in the ordnance field or Managerial but cant find work. my salary ranged overseas with housing included about 50 to 55K a year i have been looking for about 2 mo. now and starting to decide whether or not i should take a much lower paying job to have income coming in or should i stay my course and wait for a reply. i am usually on the internet about 6 hours a day looking for work. note* i have tried these search engines and companies without much success. not even an interview what should i try next? not to mention all the Vet services either. www.federaljobsearch.com ManTech?Lockheed Martin?Northrop Grumman?Dynecorp, Bae, Transportation Security Administration, kratosdefense, Convergys, National Amusments
With a technical specialty that does not have a huge civilian equivalent (mine is Military Intelligence), I have found it probably would have been best to start networking with contract organizations while you were still active. I am now trying to re-establish myself with the Intel community so I can break into an Intel position after two years, and am finding it extremely difficult. A lot of government contract organizations tend to already have someone in mind when a new position opens, which makes it more difficult to land a job. I think the ACAP folks recommended starting to look for a job six months out, which is pretty sound advice when you were still in. It may take longer to network and break back into that field now that you are out.
With the current plan to privatize the military there are great opportunities at companies like Blackwater (www.blackwaterusa.com)! Handing over the military to corporations is just getting started so there is incredible upside as both an investor and an employee. Check them out! | |
