hate retailI am really not happy with my job. I have a BA in merchandising and thinking of a career change. I am a very number orientated person. I really would like to get out of retail and get a 9-5 job. Any ideas for fields I could go into.
Any chance you could get into the more backend stuff about retail that is more 9-5 like accounting, finance, or planning instead of merchandising/buying? What about companies that do retail consulting like Manugistics or Oracle? These have 9-5 type jobs that would value your training. Or do you want to get out of retail entirely? Those things just came to mind because they might an easier place to get to. The first thing I thought of is an office position at a district office or warehouse where you can put your problem solving skills and people oriented abilities to work while still keeping your hand in on the retail business. Many of the office positions entail knowledge of inventory, vendors and training of store personnel. If you want to get out of retail altogether, then seeking a job in a district office or warehouse will allow you to gain other skills in addition to raising your existing skills so that you can go on to what you really want to do. And what do you really want to do? Well, take a year and figure that out while you are honing other skills in a retail office setting. | |
