Career Tips

ITS TOUGH TIMES NOW...

I' ve been searching for 5 months now.  My prior company ceased its operations and moved to Canada.  This is my 2nd time being downsized/consolidtaed.  I try not to take it personally, but..............you know how it is.
Sometimes I wonder what an employer looks for.  I have 23+ years of varied Operations, Production, Newspaper and Customer Service experience, yet companies either don' t want to pay OR they are looking for the ' perfect' candidate.  I know in my heart and soul that I am being somewhat discriminated against.  I HATE to say it, but this is the real world.  I am in my 40' s, white male with middle management background, which is EXACTLY what so many companies have gotten rid of the past 5-10 years.

Figure out what other industries your skills can be transferred to. Management abilities are just for middle management positions and you can still apply for positions which are more senior in design and description. A lot of these jobs do ask for some type of degree, but at the same time, experience can be substituted in if there is enough of the type of experience that is warranted for the job (For example: management of a specific number of people).

You may want to read up on the particular company and familiarize yourself with the products associated with the company, but if you are qualified, you will be considered.

I have actually some some of that as well.  I have also applied for positions that I feel I am marginally qualified for; anything and everything is my motto!
