Career ChangeI have worked in the Administrative field since 1998 which involved some HR support in some of my past jobs. I am pursuing a graduate certificate in HR Management to go along with some of my HR experience. I want to get into HR and I am not sure of what level jobs I should be applying to. Does anyone have an idea of a roadmap in HR? It sounds like you're fairly young. It sounds to me like you would have to apply for more entry-level HR positions. Like I've said in another message...sometimes you have to swallow your pride and get realistic with your career level. Changing careers a lot of times isn't a step up on the career ladder. You have to pay your dues and take a lower-level job to get the experience and qualifications. Too many people are under the impression that if they have some experience and they go back to school to acquire a degree, all of a sudden they're qualified to be a manager. Not so. In your case, perhaps look at smaller organizations looking to bring on board an HR person to handle more simple procedures. I'm not an HR person, but you probably won't get picked to fill a position that deals with EEOC stuff, or Union matters, or any type of legal issues. Large companies might work also. They might have a big HR department. I worked with a global company and they had a handful of HR people. One person specialized in Foreign/oversees HR issues and HR issues with their global subsidiaries. Another person handled all legal matters and Union issues, while another HR person handled hiring, benefits, orientation, and general employee matters. If your passion for HR contuniues, you'd probably have to get a degree in HR Management and then get your SPHR designation to become a big time HR manager. | |
